This is my son, Beau, from a few years ago, before he became too self conscious to let me take any photos of him. I showed him the kind of shot I wanted to take, and he liked the fact he's be partially shadowed. I wanted to deepen the blacks in post to crush them in places, to absolute black, and being rather gothic in spirit, he liked that. This was actually taken between him trying to pose for me, and it's the most natural of them all. We just used the evening light coming through our venetian

I went up to Richmond in Nth Yorkshire for a few days just after Easter, to buy a pair of locally made hiking boots (Alt-Berg) and spend a few days photographing the beautiful local area. I was down on the River Swale when I saw this maybug sunbathing on a rock by the water. I had the 24mm lens on my Canon R8 at the time, and got as close to the subject as possible. Should have set the tripod up and shot a few focus stacks, but this single shot came out ok.
