Composition in Photography

Composition in Photography

Sunday the 2nd of October
Shoreham Harbour - 9am to 11am - 2 hours
This 2-hour meetup event focuses on one of the key disciplines of photography, composition! No matter how hard you look, no matter how much money you spend on your camera you will never find a "composition" button! This skill is something photographers have to develop themselves and this meet up will focus on precisely this. Get beyond the rule of thirds, learn a range of new compositional techniques, some drawn from the masters of photography. Discover how Ansel Adams made compelling landscapes by getting low, getting wide, and getting close! Discover the power and use of leading lines, symmetry, repetition and rhythm. No matter what your photographic interests are, these guides can help you to make more creative and arresting images!

Understanding Aperture and Depth of Field in Photography

Sunday the 30th of October
Brighton i360 - 9am to 11 am - 2 hours
Learn the creative potential the aperture can bring to your photography. Master the art of creating shallow depth of field and the creative potential of Bokeh. You will learn the balance required of aperture, focal length and distance to achieve a variety of bokeh effects. Make landscape images that are sharp from foreground to background and learn top focusing tricks to make the most of small apertures. Find out how different focal lengths affect depth of field and exploit the potential of this effect! The Brighton beach front is a hub of photography potential including seascape, landscape, street photography and found still life. We will start using depth of field to capture the landscape and architecture of the coastline and then, as things get busier see how depth of field can be applied to street photography and portraiture!

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.
Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Your experience doesn’t stop once the class ends - you can also share your photos in the Brighton Photography Facebook Group
